Personally, I think it would potentially also shift a lot of computational burden onto end-user devices for the merging, which could be problematic for older devices. So it's a bit of a trade-off to consider!

Especially if you are (e.g. at a trip) requested to do it w/o cost free or flat rate connection and especially with roaming. So I would be happy, if it will be a future 'opt in' feature. But this is a feature, which is not urgent. But, You can ask the community here, what is the preference and usage.
