Since yesterday I worked on Gaiden, I though today I might spice things up a bit and invert the days. So today I didn't work on Gaiden -- no, instead I was working on a fun little side project, which is Dragon Warrior IV for the Famicom!
I managed to get in some preliminary work in inserting the script, like getting a latin script with diacritics inserted in the Japanese version, and inserting diacritics on the American one. I haven't really decided which version of the game I'll use as a basis for my project, though.
The American version has more room for text, but is heavily censored and has less features. In both cases I'll need to crack open the game's compression (yes, this game uses Huffman!). Honestly it's kinda nice seeing a change of pace from your usual "cake recipe" NES hacking for once, iykwim.
Chicken Knife (the person who worked on DQIV delocalized) is helping me out, but they said they don't want me getting their tools out there, so I'm also considering making my own just so I can open source them (xd). FOSS is the way, baby!
Tomorrow... More Fire Emblem Gaiden mayhem (hopefully)
