@airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place In the Amber Diceless RPG, which is a tabletop RPG based on the Amber series by Roger Zelazny (and it's diceless), magic is treated like a mathematical formula -- the second cycle featuring Merlin as the main character, sees him study computer science and then creating a magic system based on programming. 1/

@airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place In the RPG, a spell is a formula with 'arguments' -- the target of a fireball is an argument, the intensity is an argument, etc. The magician can prepare their spells with some arguments already "pre-filled", but others have to be specified upon casting (the system calls these "lynchpins"). And because the characters can travel through different Shadows (basically parallel worlds) and every Shadow has their own way of doing magic, "magic of Shadow" is the most common lynchpin. 2/2
