Had a friend coming over. He's been away for a few years, and was passing nearby, so we met for a quick chat. Had some catching up to do on our life things. Asked me if I'm still a dev or what is my role now. I reflected a bit on it. And maybe it was the beer. But the summary of my current job was "I act as a lubricant: we have lots of moving parts that we need to fit together correctly, by different people, and I work to reduce the friction". Now the alcohol effect has worn off and I'm left with the crude realization.
