So I stayed up pretty late at night trying to browse all corners of the internet for the main configurations and such before installing any packages. My previous experiences with Emacs tell me that it's actually a pretty modern text editor, but all of it's modern features are hidden behind obscure toggles and configs. In the end, I found https://github.com/jamescherti/minimal-emacs.d, and I think to maximize my chances of success this time, I am going to start with that

@witchgirls@woof.tech Be sure to install that suggested "emacs-common-non-dfsg" package. It's what gets you the Emacs info manuals, which debian keeps separate. They will be immensely valuable on your journey.

@witchgirls@woof.tech welcome to the church of #emacs but make sure you have a plan of what you want emacs to do for you & do it one step at a time. its too easy to be like a kid in a candy store

@witchgirls@woof.tech looking forward to following along with your progress. I'm also going through another Emacs phase. It's just the appeal of opening vscode is that it generally "just works with everything" whereas Emacs is more of "Can work with everything... if you have the time to set it up".
