So I stayed up pretty late at night trying to browse all corners of the internet for the main configurations and such before installing any packages.
My previous experiences with Emacs tell me that it's actually a pretty modern text editor, but all of it's modern features are hidden behind obscure toggles and configs.
In the end, I found https://github.com/jamescherti/minimal-emacs.d, and I think to maximize my chances of success this time, I am going to start with that

:blobfoxupsidedown: It feels weird and I can't explain it, but I feel like when scrolling with the mouse wheel in Emacs it scrolls down a lot more than it scrolls up? Also, I read about `(pixel-scroll-precision-mode)` and tried it, and while it looks amazing, it scrolls fifteen lines at a time, and I've spent the entire morning trying to find what config changes that to no avail :blobfoxgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands:
