@donnodubus@mas.to @hildabast@mastodon.online @mission_europa@universeodon.com in fact I'd like to know if there is any sort criteria involved at all or if the server simply displays the post on the time line as it receives it not based on the timestamp, not sorting by any criteria, simply displaying it as it is received (which may sometimes differ slightly from the time stamp). Do you know for sure that posts are sorted by time?

@techlife@indieweb.social @donnodubus@mas.to @mission_europa@universeodon.com Given the time lags that defederation can sometimes cause, I think I'd like that.

@techlife@indieweb.social To be honest, I don't actually know how Mastodon's code works under the hood. But since users are able to manipulate their timeline by filtering out boosts, for example, it seems to me that the timeline is not simply a naive stream of data. I think it must be processed and organized into a list according to metadata, which would necessarily make it algorithmic. People who say Mastodon has no algorithms are also forget the trending post and hasthag tabs... @hildabast@mastodon.online @mission_europa@universeodon.com
