@techlife@indieweb.social To be honest, I don't actually know how Mastodon's code works under the hood. But since users are able to manipulate their timeline by filtering out boosts, for example, it seems to me that the timeline is not simply a naive stream of data. I think it must be processed and organized into a list according to metadata, which would necessarily make it algorithmic. People who say Mastodon has no algorithms are also forget the trending post and hasthag tabs... @hildabast@mastodon.online @mission_europa@universeodon.com

@donnodubus@mas.to @hildabast@mastodon.online @mission_europa@universeodon.com filtering out something is an algorithm, but just receiving tweets as they arrive? Even if it turns out you are correct on a point of technicality (which I admit you did say), I'm struggling to understand how this translates to a relevant addition to the debate about qt's as a chronological occurrence vs one processed via a much more value based judgement than simple chronology. Chronology simulates the natural sequence with which the qt are generated

@donnodubus@mas.to @hildabast@mastodon.online @mission_europa@universeodon.com I think even if toots are sorted b y the 'algorithm' of 'chronological placement', it's still a rather large qualititative difference between algorithms using criteria such as toot content, audience, the rating of the tooter etc etc.
