@hildabast@mastodon.online it might be hard to quantify, but it always appeared to me that QT carried a different weight in Twitter's algorithm compared to a Reply as far as displaying on your follower's timelines. At least my own experience was to see the accts I followed QTs far more than their replies (which were sometimes never on the main timeline). This seems to be different here in Mastodon which has less aggressive curation algorithm of the Home feed?

@hildabast@mastodon.online And I do feel that it wasn't it's primary use, but often if you are dealing with a "bigger" account in a debate in the replies, that big accounts are more likely to QT to get attention to their arguments that weren't getting in their individual replies. The person with a smaller account has no such recourse to "call for backup" given the audience size difference. Is that wrong? I'm not sure but it kinda sucks that some have "can escape a debate" privileges

@mission_europa@universeodon.com I mention in the post that if the algorithm gave QTs particular weight, that would influence how often we saw them - but the Twitter algorithm is secret, so we can't know. Mastodon doesn't use any algorithm at all for the Home feed - you see it chronologically.

@mission_europa@universeodon.com @hildabast@mastodon.online This was baked into the UI: Quote tweets are full tweets, & get a higher precedence than replies. It's possible full tweets get higher algorithmic ranking - I don't know - but they get pride of placement, which is going to inherently enhance their reach, if in some cases only a little.

@mission_europa@universeodon.com @hildabast@mastodon.online there is no curation algorithm in the Fediverse. Your choice of instance will determine whose posts you see and who will see you. You see posts in reverse chronological order. This applies to all lists and timelines.
