@chargrille same reason unregulated charter schools and voucher systems are taking over public education and the past two generations of college graduates are going to die in debt to Sallie Mae: we love money more than children. That, and the fact that capitalism teaches us see other people as competition and/or resources to exploit. Any time someone says we need to do something "for the children," try to figure out if they really mean "because sex is scary," "because my religion validates my misogynism/racism/homophobia/transphobia/spin the wheel of hate," or just "my argument has no basis in logic so I have to appeal to emotion."
