@andrewg@mastodon.ie it's annoying cus even if you stay on the big socials the platforms don't actually want to show you the people you care you about.
I dusted off my FB during the first COVID lockdown hoping to connect and I might as well not have bothered.
I do like having and hearing lots of new news when I meet people in person though.

@davey_cakes@mastodon.ie recommender algorithms are the closest approximation to paperclip maximisers that human beings have created in all of history. They’re insanely powerful, deeply stupid, and free of most of the physical and legal constraints that make the previous best approximation (casinos) look like baby toys.
