Star Trek, as a franchise, exists to look forward. But under its current owners, the only thing Trek can do is look backwards. It has nothing to offer us but shallow nostalgia-bait. And I don't come to Trek because it has cool space people in funny costumes. I come to Trek because it explores ideas that I'll still be thinking about decades in the future.
