@vnikolov@ieji.de @screwlisp@gamerplus.org @bagder@mastodon.social @albinowax@infosec.exchange It seems not an individual program question but almost a question about the entire structure of the applied math field, like asking accountants their posture on spreadsheets and their use in forecasting back when they were a new tech.

@kentpitman@climatejustice.social @vnikolov@ieji.de @bagder@mastodon.social When you said that the LLM vulnerability scanning turning up similar vulnerabilities and bugs to previously discovered bugs, that company that was in the news for the 2025 vulnerability discoveries in curl and openssl somewhere did have a page saying they specifically asked their AI to look for code that was similar to commits introducing previously discovered vulnerabilities. So there is an aspect to LLMs looking for their keys under the streetlamp.

I happened to read, quite recently, about a burst of proof proposals or proof claims made with LLMs in relation to conjectures by Erdös and more generally in the field of combinatorics. It sounded like there were not enough mathematicians to examine those submissions. I didn't realize my question might sound overly general. @kentpitman@climatejustice.social @screwlisp@gamerplus.org @albinowax@infosec.exchange
