@nicuveo@tech.lgbt it’s interesting to contrast this with the lemmy/kbin crowd who are rather determined to ensure their platform is searchable. They want it to become a permanent repository of information. Just the other day people were asking the devs about how to improve SEO for the platform.
My take is that mastodon is an awkward middle ground between private group chat and social media and that some form of “public square(s)” isn’t actually a bad idea and masto isn’t the place for it.

@maegul@hachyderm.io i think twitter already was in this weird middle-ground; it was never intended to become a repository of information, but it became one nonetheless... but, otherwise, i agree: mastodon isn't a "public square". it's more private. which, honestly, is pretty great? but that just means it can't be a 1:1 replacement for twitter: influencers, politicians, and people who want to build their brand will never get the same reach here.
