@maegul@hachyderm.io i think twitter already was in this weird middle-ground; it was never intended to become a repository of information, but it became one nonetheless... but, otherwise, i agree: mastodon isn't a "public square". it's more private. which, honestly, is pretty great? but that just means it can't be a 1:1 replacement for twitter: influencers, politicians, and people who want to build their brand will never get the same reach here.

@nicuveo@tech.lgbt oh yea, masto is great if want masto, and there are plenty of reasons for people to want that, no doubt! Though the issues some have had with safety taints the idea that suburban quietude is a good idea for social media … maybe private group chats would be good? But it’s not Twitter and it’s not the social media many both here and not would want, yet by size it is basically the fediverse. Moving on from masto dominance may be valuable/important for the Fedi at large IMO.
