@elduvelle@neuromatch.social @nicuveo@tech.lgbt saving stuff makes sense, but in the end it’ll be done with software, right, and for many hosted non-locally? So why not use the FOSS software that is our social media? I say this because I suspect it might be healthy for the professional quarters of masto (eg academia et al) to openly acknowledge if/how masto isn’t the platform they need. Because there are others and can be new ones too. Lemmy/kbin for instance are completely searchable.

@maegul@hachyderm.io @nicuveo@tech.lgbt Sorry but I don’t know what FOSS is! Definitely agree that we should assess what needs to be improved for Mastodon to work (better) for us! If it’s just a matter of improving the search, it seems that we can just wait for it to be done… That recent beta update might even have it. Instead if there is an incompatibility of philosophy and goals (open vs closed, allowing criticism and debate vs blocking anyone who disagrees with you) then yes maybe we should migrate somewhere else… again… but I think we can coexist on Mastodon, maybe just have different servers for these different philosophies.

@maegul@hachyderm.io @elduvelle@neuromatch.social @nicuveo@tech.lgbt I'm also like we don't have to treat "mastodon" as if it's a single thing and should instead be forking the shit out of it and making it work how we want to.
