Definitely agree that we should assess what needs to be improved for Mastodon to work (better) for us! If it’s just a matter of improving the search, it seems that we can just wait for it to be done… That recent beta update might even have it.
Instead if there is an incompatibility of philosophy and goals (open vs closed, allowing criticism and debate vs blocking anyone who disagrees with you) then yes maybe we should migrate somewhere else… again… but I think we can coexist on Mastodon, maybe just have different servers for these different philosophies.

@elduvelle@neuromatch.social @nicuveo@tech.lgbt oh sorry, FOSS=free open source software, eg fosstodon.org. Different servers for different needs makes a lot of sense (especially as a user of neuromatch), but I feel masto forks are not as successful as one would hope. Which I chalk up to the fact that it’s just more complexity for the user in addition to choosing an instance, and admins too. Instead, I think an alternative platform that’s obvious to users etc might be better, if it can “break through”.
