I think I've used those exact words myself at some point. The very idea of "guardrails" is basically a lie. What it means, in practice, is "massaging the data" (in a few different senses of that expression).

@muddle@infosec.exchange @conniptions@mastodon.social @lzg@mastodon.social it was in a talk years ago about types in a programming languagevs something like var. People claimed types were like gaurd rails "they don't allow me to use the wrong type by mistake" and his response was something like "I'm glad cause when I'm driving I just release the wheel and hope the gaurdrails are strong enough".
