@muddle@infosec.exchange @conniptions@mastodon.social @lzg@mastodon.social it was in a talk years ago about types in a programming languagevs something like var. People claimed types were like gaurd rails "they don't allow me to use the wrong type by mistake" and his response was something like "I'm glad cause when I'm driving I just release the wheel and hope the gaurdrails are strong enough".

@vrek@mastodon.social @conniptions@mastodon.social @lzg@mastodon.social yeah, so maybe a mix of "wrong analogy" (your point, I think) and "getting the analogy wrong." (my point, but I think they're doing it on purpose: lying, in other words) Not sure exactly if rule enforcement in a type system is exactly analogous, but I think we both agree that "AI" people talking about guardrails aren't to be trusted.
