I mean the good thing about nix is that it's mainline focused, and not all about hack harvesting (although we do keep quite a collection of hacks) they all are encouraged to be upstreamed. That's why I feel comfy in the pmOS channels and why I feel like I'll vibe more and contribute more significantly with y'all at some point soon ^^

@matthewcroughan@social.defenestrate.it i respect it for what it is, but various things just don't vibe with me super well... the linker stuff is very neat, im a bit jealous of that also the ability to bisect your whole OS is very cool, im hopeful that we'll eventually have something similar albeit considerably more cursed with pmOS, but that involves maintaining an archive of packages and version constrained apk world files to list every package in the image.... It would however let us fairly easily narrow down a regression to a specific package or easily reproduce an image for debugging proper reproducible builds are still quite a ways off though

@matthewcroughan@social.defenestrate.it @maris@chaos.social @cas@social.treehouse.systems using nixos made me contribute to quite a few upstream projects which i would never have done without it. i think it only works because you can properly patch nixos, while almost any other distro i know requires way too much effort to do the same (especially keeping the patches while still upgrading everything)
