In case anyone still thinks cruise ships sound like fun, spare a thought for the 1,700 passengers of the 'Ambition' currently stranded off the French coast.
Up to 50 passengers are thought to have gastroenteritis and one person has died.
The world's most environmentally damaging form of tourism is also becoming one of the most dangerous.

@BobLefridge@mastodon.nz You'd think "enhanced sanitation and prevention protocols" would be a good idea to implement all the time.

@BobLefridge@mastodon.nz The one and only Cruise my son took with his family ended up with everyone catching Norovirus. Since then they have travelled in places like Vietnam and small Pacific Islands, eaten food cooked in local homes where living conditions were very basic and never been ill or caught any bugs.

@BobLefridge@mastodon.nz Never mind the HORRENDOUS damage they do to oceans, too...[and those emissions, yikes].
