@lobau@noodle.social @fedora@fosstodon.org @vanillaos@fosstodon.org @elementary@mastodon.social Why these "Most open operating systems are actually more usable and user-centric than the commercial ones" only have <2% of the market share while less usable paid ones have 98%?

@spyke@mastodon.online I would say: 1. They don't have the marketing money to become a consideration for most people. Run a superbowl ad for a @starlabssystems@mastodon.social laptop running Fedora Kinoite and see how many people convert. 2. Same, but that means they don't come preinstalled on most laptop. Even getting a Thinkpad with Linux is harder that it should. Installing Linux from USB is _hard_ 3. Ecosystem integration. You're stuck in iMessage and want it on your laptop? You have exactly one choice.

@spyke@mastodon.online at the end of the day, changing your habit to do the right thing for you and the world is hard. This is why people still eat meat, still buy unrepairable hardware, and still give most of their money to companies that are too big to care.
