You've left materialism. There is no primary conscious center, or a soul. Consciousness is the body, its parts. Free will is a slippery and irrelevant concept. You are the sum experience of your body. This is encoded for your cells; you.
Humans are not running wholly independent OS's. Not only do we share similar material bases, this makes us share similar needs. In our OS's is our distributed nature.
You fail to see that the internet is a bunch of computers.
