In defense: whenever a subset of adults is causing harm (including where lack of self-reflection is a factor), it seems sensible to protect children from them.
But I'm opposed to the method. Protection is best achieved by education: teaching children what social media is, how networks and requests work, what others can know about you when you use it, techniques for influence, scams, et cetera. I don't see any governments spreading the word they're prioritizing that.

@Starfia@mastodon.social I didn’t intend to suggest that governments should ignore children because they’re also ignoring adults. I only meant that they’re ignoring the elephant in the room — good for business, arguably bad for society.
