@jaseg@chaos.social That's actually not to strange of an idea. Some types of tunable lasers are also tuned via temperature. Also many years ago there was some paper about determining the location of a computer based on the drift of their clock. Essentially the idea was that room temperature changes with the sun and therefore you can find out of it's day or night. Based on that you can find out the location.

@jaseg@chaos.social There was a pro-tip that used to circulate data centre ops to help locate a server if it wasn't easily identifiable. The tip was to run a heavy load on the server and either walk round the data centre listening for the louder fans (in a noisy data centre!?), or use a thermal camera to find the hotter one.

@jaseg@chaos.social Huh. I'mactually reading that slide as showing they can control the phase to compensate for the temperature changes, not that they're using the temperature too control the phase. Maintaining a nice stable 80ps despite introducing temperature fluctuations, then showing how when they turn off their script the phase follows the temperature again. I think! 🤔
