@scribblemacher@mstdn.games @outofprintarchive@retro.pizza I think there was kind of some sort of thing where critics were expected to say everything was really bad except for the absolute cream of the crop. This was back before they were just straight up required by the editors and higher ups to provide a minimum level and lavish everything with certain minimum levels of complements so that no one could really tell anything by a review anymore since they all sound the same... Essentially critics were supposed to be mean. But usually not that extreme...
