@Greg@social.coop the plastic filament based printers all have an inherent degree of Whimsy that eventually turns them into Projects though. I don't know of any exceptions to this rule yet, but the technology has improved enough that the time-to-project has gotten a lot longer over the years. I have no idea if the resin printers are better for reliability. I imagine they ought to be because there's fewer moving parts, but I've never owned one so idk.

@Greg@social.coop Resin printers are better for small figurines. Plastic filament printers are better for functional parts, and can be better for large prints. Both probably want good ventilation. Plastic filament printers also tend to like supervision (I've had two start on fire due to shoddy wiring and only one of them was my fault, and a print dislodged once and started melting around the nozzle on my Prusa which is a different kind of bad), so keep in mind that large volume prints mean long prints.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place @Greg@social.coop Yes. Thanks for pointing that out. All filament printers have their quirks. The FlashForge I got tends to clog on cheaper filament material and that requires screwdriver skills. I hear other makes and models have similar issues. I've been told resin printers are not for beginners. The materials are toxic and require careful handling and ventilation, if I understand correctly.
