Halfway through this paper that I’m reviewing appears an AI-generated diagram of the system the paper describes. The authors are transparent about it, but what do I make of this? I’ve got to admit, this annoys me more than I expected. Even if we assume that the diagram is structurally correct, the text contains the typical genAI artifacts (mashed-up letters, misspellings, etc.) that one wouldn’t accept in the main text—so it’s simply sloppy. What’s the point!?

  • @mxp@mastodon.acm.org I had exactly the same experience with a number of project idea presentations/ pitches today. I guess I have a new rule that I do not trust what you are doing if you cannot even be bothered to draw a diagram about it yourself.
