@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space @jrose@social.belkadan.com i liked the way that cohost reposts put the reposter's content *below* the original rather than above. it's not a perfect solution against directing unwanted attention, but it seemed like it set up the interaction as the reposter adding to a conversation, rather than setting up a post to be gawked at by taking the first word

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com @jrose@social.belkadan.com yes, that was very nice. it also avoids the effect where the reposter gets to prime the reader however they want for the original post, which is very useful to those who seek to actively decontextualize things or place them in misleading contexts.

But Mastodon seems to be dead set on following the commercial network trends 8-( They could even give users choice by putting the preview where the link is instead of at the bottom of the post unconditionally. This would allow any quoting style.
