@maxplanckgesellschaft@wisskomm.social I mostly dislike sweet things, but, in the US, "all the sugar" seems to be the default. A few weeks back, we stopped at a bubble tea shop. Normally, I explicitly order "zero extra sugar". The default at the shops around here seems to be somewhere between 25-50% (of what, I'm not certain, but I've heard other patrons say 75% or even 100% when placing their orders, which is just mind-blowing). I forgot to say "no extra sugar". Damn near did a spit-take when the first drops exited the straw into my mouth. I mean, I can't eat Krispy Kreme donuts because they're so tooth-achingly sweetened.
