All men are mortal.
Socrates is mortal.
Therefore all men are Socrates.

@robinshipton@writing.exchange @matunos@mastodon.social You may have to explain to me how this maps to the original. But let's run with it. Had you said: All men are mortal. Socrates is mortal. Then yes, it would be odd were someone to read that as you implying that: "all men are Socrates" But would it be odd to read that as you implying: "Socrates is just a man"
