Never underestimate stupidity. I worked at facebook when the Cambridge Analytica leak happened. We had NO CLUE the degree to which apps were scraping user data. I think we broadly knew it was going on but like, we didn't bother to look too deeply. The $$$ was too good This is kind of a curse that happens to a lot of tech platforms when you get big - you can't watch everything anymore, and shitty people exploit things. Right wingers are very good at figuring out and exploiting these systems.
