In case you need to hear this today:
1.5 degrees is not a goal, but a threshold of human suffering as a consequence of rising temperatures. This threshold is merely defined by being deemed a palatable outcome in inter-governmental negotiations.
Most of that suffering will be born by poor people and most of them live in places with little economic weight to throw around in negotiations.
Some suffering will impact you and me.
Every fraction of a degree matters. You can still make a difference.

Since 2024 is officially the first year to have surpassed a 1.5° average temperature, here is a reminder that 1.5 was never a goal based on hard evidence about boundaries of survivable conditions. 1.5° is a political compromise about palatable suffering. Which means that there is ample opportunity and moral imperative for continuing to fight. Every degree of a lessened catastrophe matters, every degree of mitigated impact saves lives. For all sorts of catastrophes.
