@carstenfranke@mastodon.social @daswarkeinhuhn@netzkae.se For sure. Nodding thistle is another name for musk thistle. If you let it flower (don’t!), you’ll see that the heavy flower head will bend the stem toward the ground — nodding.

  • @donray@mastodon.online @daswarkeinhuhn@netzkae.se I have seen them back home in Germany, and here in Minnesota near highways, but all much later when they were tall plants. Never noticed them in the spring when they were this small.

    @carstenfranke@mastodon.social @daswarkeinhuhn@netzkae.se When I bought my little farm 25 years ago, there was a light, but widespread infestation of musk thistle. Digging them out before they could flower eliminated the problem, but it took a few years (each year easier than the previous one). I usually waited till they put up a flower stalk to dig (easier to find them). Any flower heads that showed purple went into a sack to be disposed of.
