Self interest. The baseline of politics at a local level. Interesting. Maybe there is indeed an element of that.
What I find difficult to understand is how many people around here I get along with, seem nice people, but who vote Reform and support Trump.
Maybe it is a combination of self interest, narrow mindedness and ignorance due to being so busy that the only information they get is from the BBC and Facebook, reinforcing a specifically manipulated confirmation bias.

@MostlyTato@mstdn.social @HarriettMB@toot.wales A lot of folk who support Reform (as opposed to the actual Councillors) aren't even that racist/bigoted, but feel that Reform is "business and motorist friendly" and will stop things like 20mph speed limits and things like health and safety/environment regulations that aren't even that onerous but require some admin work or other actions that is perceived to divert from revenue earning business..
