@chrisnelder@mastodon.energy And that makes more sense! This is their export capacity plant just sitting there waiting to spin up in response to demand. No sense running the factories if you're only cannibalizing your own demand, but if the customers come, you're ready for them. And of course, they came. Just incredible that they even built that capacity out. No reason to expect that the March uptick is going to subside when (if) the oil starts flowing again. Once people change their minds ...

It hasn't been widely reported, but China's PV manufacturing business has been absolutely cutthroat with massive plants being built to replace "obsolete" plants that are less than 2 years old. It's a horrible business to be in. But they have had a ton of excess capacity for some years now.
