The moment I was finally able to get my very own credit card as they were very strict back in the day, this was literally in my first import order.
Before that, I had to rely on a local import shop and could request games, but never knew what would come in.
And they kept telling me how hard it was to find the shoot em ups on Saturn...
Well, the day I got my CC, I started going from all the STG games that they told me for years that just were too rare to find copies of.
It was insane and played so many Japanese Saturn and Dreamcast games.
Then in 2002 when the Dreamcast died, I went even harder into Japanese exclusives and even finally got myself a PC-Engine Duo-R and AES.
That helped soften the blow a bit, although, honestly I'm still not over it and wonder from time to time how things would be like if we were on the Dreamcast 4 now instead of on another stupid Xbox...

@outofprintarchive@retro.pizza I used to have a pretty extensive collection of Saturn shmups, sourced mostly through Yahoo auctions Japan. I had connections there that could order the games and ship them to me. And this was around ‘99 to the early ‘00s before people were going crazy for old titles. Everyone wanted the new stuff, so I was picking up these games in auction bundles for a small fraction of what they go for today. Then hard times came, and I had to start selling stuff off. If only current me could go back in time and slap past me in the face. :blobcatnotlikethis:
