@riley@toot.cat @oseiler@mastodon.nz I'm not sure whether the first line is supposed to be a joke (since the second definitely is), but I looked it up and no, as it turns out 'merda' is not only an original Latin word, but it actually pre-dates Latin, already being present in proto-Italic.

    @robrecht@kind.social that's interesting, I would have thought it was late Latin too, just because it's so popular in the romance languages and in Latin itself I feel like I've seen things like "stercus" more. Interesting to learn that! @riley@toot.cat @oseiler@mastodon.nz
