Public transit apps should come with an option note. Like “hey so the transfer is a 12 minute wait but if you think you can make it and you don’t walk like a lil bitch you can try to make the one in 4 minutes. Good luck have fun bestie”

@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io not quite that, but the Transit app does have "hurry up" if you "go" for a bus that it thinks you can't walk to in time.

@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io there should be a lot more standardization. All this public money could create a lot of valuable open source. I’m frustrated by my city’s push to more advanced apps that make it harder to predict when the bus will actually arrive because the underlying timing data doesn’t adjust properly for delays (uneven smoothing). The underlying data could use some work too as it doesn’t get changed even when the route has major detours.

@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io "SBB Mobile" used to have the feature to opt for shorter transfer times. Meanwhile they killed it with an update, you can only extend it now. Of course you can still catch unofficial connections (I do that almost daily, also today...changed trains within 3 minutes instead of the official minimum of 4 min, with a stroller).

@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io Citymapper doesn't have exactly this, but when you've chosen a route with a specific connection, it does show the few connecting options before the recommended one and the few after, so you can see if there's a chance. What I also really want is an option like "hey so we suggested this journey because in theory it's the fastest, but we see that you've been delayed for a while so now it would be quicker to change route completely, quick get out!"

  • @hazelweakly@hachyderm.io Google Maps famous for having you walk a 6 minute detour when the bus stops right in front of the train platform. Google when ferries literally have their schedule set so people can connect with the train: Computer says no.
