if you subvert or deconstruct something without understanding what makes it compelling then your subversion/deconstruction will be ass. arguably the work that you produce might be compelling enough on its own to overcome this flaw (I have been told that Doki Doki Literature Club achieves this) but the subversive element will be ass.
