@dank@jorts.horse Maybe I'm misunderstanding then, or maybe I'm just out of the loop on European culture 😅 There's a lot of countries and I don't know how May Day is celebrated in all of them. But from my experience, those countries that celebrate May Day in Europe are celebrating the original version, not the US labour-movement one. So claiming its a "staple of European culture" feels weird, when it's a different thing. Or am I wide of the mark here?

    @theadhocracy@indieweb.social @dank@jorts.horse It's international worker's day, it's definitely being celebrated in Europe even if it's on the same day as the older May Day celebrations. I don't know how the split is but I imagine most European countries have it as a public holiday because of organized labour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Workers%27_Day
