@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org Most decent/good hypervisors so far have defaulted to keeping any non-base features disabled, even if they do implement features that can be unsafe.
Xen for example allows for "safe" SMT, if you consider that everything within a given domain has access to everything within itself without isolation.
If that's your model, then you can safely enable SMT with Xen. That defaults to disabled. (And Qubes further ensured this, but Xen did the right thing anyway.)
It also allows for fully unsafe SMT, which is likewise disabled by default.

@lispi314@udongein.xyz Yes, because most people aren't using hypervisors for what we currently use processes for. If the hypervisor becomes the new process, that will surely change.
