@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org I made particular mention of capabilities and language-based security in my rant for a reason.
They could actually provide safety and adequate performance even on hardware that doesn't do memory isolation of any sort.

@lispi314@udongein.xyz You mean like Microsoft Research's Singularity operating system? I vaguely recall that that sort of security model is insecure because of the Spectre vulnerability. Not sure about the details, but the hardware would also need to lack speculative execution, and nobody's going to accept such a severe performance hit.
