Draco, you seem to look back at it kinda dismissive? It might very well be that your younger self will surprise you! ;) In any case, go for it!
Music wants to be free! :)
Source: I recently digitized my cassette recordings from the 80s. Made with 2 cheap cassette recorders (and my "self invented" overdub technique), a battery powered mixer, a microphone and my super shiny Yamaha PSR-470 (it hadn't even Midi but I was totally privileged to have that in East Germany).
5 cassettes plus 2 without the Synth (then only my piano and kitchen pots mainly). Yeah, there is cringe material, no kidding. But also a lot of not half bad stuff. Surprise!!

@herr_irrtum@s.basspistol.org @stephan@sonomu.club eh, no, I actually did have a lot of problems with latency back then (which were very much a function of the not-so-great hardware I was working with) and I had pretty bad microphone anxiety, especially when playing instruments. (I still struggle with the latter.) That resulted in some very obvious and un-enjoyable timing issues. (Also, I'm notoriously bad at playing to a click or metronome.) I know that I'm still fond of the substance of the songwriting.
