The dark side of the moon is the face that faces away from the earth. The moon rotates on an axis in geosynchronous fashion so that we always see the same features/face. Very few people have seen the dark (far) side of the moon with their own eyes.

As the approach the moon, they can see the far side; the angle of visibility (cross section of face) will be from an angle not accessible to a viewer on earth. Hence her ability to comment on seeing the far side.
