@A_Minion@mastodon.social @copter_chief@mstdn.party Not saying it is a smart move. Brings numbers back to pre Ukraine war levels, while inflicting pain on local German economy. Less renters, customers etc. Main point is all the narrative and reporting of it being in retaliation for recent German comments isn't correct. 5000 is also seen as a big number, but pales in comparison to what will stay. And the American troops and base is there for American interests, not necessarily Germany interests.

@SuperMoosie@mastodon.au @copter_chief@mstdn.party It's almost self-evident that US troops are there for US interests. Yet along the way we are also there, right or wrong, in defense of the people of divergent nations around the world. I say right or wrong because we were in Vietnam as much for Australia and the pacific rim as we were trying to be the oppositions from expanding dictators. The signal sent by bringing 10% home does not engender a position of strength, in the same way letting 6 die & 30 wounded.

@SuperMoosie@mastodon.au @copter_chief@mstdn.party I will also suggest that the biggest part of this is simply that the people leading this conflict have no clue what they're doing. Starting a War to loose much more than they gain to Ego, bravado. I've been under people like Hegseth. He is, as I have said, the kind of leader who gets his troops killed. Being in combat is not healthy, being in combat led by an egotistic fool is devastating. Leaders have to think not just try to get even in a rage. Then People die.
