Back then, bicycling was definitely a hobby for me, although, even after we moved out of Center City Philadelphia to the NJ suburbs in 1997 and bought the Passat, there was still only one car between the two of us. So I still rode my mother's old Nishiki the 6 miles to work pretty often, since my ex worked on the other side of Philadelphia, out in Conshohocken. My mother has MS, so she couldn't ride anymore, but since I didn't have a bicycle when we moved to the 'burbs, she gave me hers.

Eventually, my ex took a job in Cherry Hill, so since our offices were less than 2 mi apart, it was much easier for us to commute together. I wish I still had that old Nishiki (an Olympic Royale mixte), but it mysteriously "disappeared" out of the company's warehouse where I had left it, after I was summarily let go by new management. It was a fine bicycle. They don't make them like that, anymore. She bought it at Annarelli's in Ocean City, NJ (defunct after 80 years). https://www.flickr.com/photos/veloclassique/albums/72157628458969319/
