@et_andersson@idlethumbs.social I liked giving commands to the aquarium, glacier, and some other inanimate objects. I think they ran out of attribute bits for objects, requiring some to be shared, but I haven't verified that. You can tell the aquarium to GO EAST, for example, and it might get eaten by a grue. Another fun one: > AQUARIUM, DROP BABY And then there's the ever popular: > READ UNICORN Possibly also a reused attribute bit? > READ STAND takes it, but it's still firmly bolted to the table.

  • @brouhaha@mastodon.social I've heard about those bugs, but I'm pretty sure they were fixed in later versions. Unfortunately they also managed to introduce some new bugs along the way. Of course, that's with 40 years of hindsight. Back when I originally played them I only ran into maybe three or four bugs in the entire Infocom library of games.

@et_andersson@idlethumbs.social Of course, the bugs I found in Zork II, withing a week of its publication (Release 7 / Serial number UG3AU5) were less subtle and much more easily found than your timer action bug. They've been widely known for years. The implementers knew how much some of us liked finding bugs. From Planetfall: "Last version was better," says Floyd. "More bugs. Bugs make game fun."
