@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org @MissConstrue@mefi.social @quinn@social.circl.lu @apz@some.apz.fi I find optimism in the knowledge that the same types of people behind the world of piracy are also the people behind alternatives like Linux and Mastodon... and there are a lot more (as in orders of magnitude more) in the Linux and Mastodon camps. Government may drive the alternatives underground but as long as governments are run by old men who don't understand technology the nerds will remain 5 steps ahead of them

Point being, these are not technically literate humans. If bootleg tapes of a band playing a club in London was able to make it to in my hands and on the air on my pirate radio station in Austin, within a week in the 1980s ... and there's a whole generation of us that grew up building hardware ... there will be an underground ready to roll faster than they know how to keep up. In happier news though, eventually the dinosaurs will die, and gods willing the idiocracy with them.
