That's the questions to ask, I agree :)
I feel some games may benefit from micro-managing inventories. That's something I really like in DREDGE, the different items/fishes have different shapes and fitting as much in your boat becomes a game in itself.
But in other games, it can be a real hindrance and managing inventory just remove you from the "real" game. That's why I always mod Dragon's Dogma to be able to carry more.

@yora@mastodon.gamedev.place In my case, the game is a loot extractor so it's really important to force the player to make choices and sacrifices I feel to give it some "connection" to the loot (not sure I make much sense here^^). But I also realise I'm walking on the line between fun and tedious so I have to step lightly :)
